Can I choose which type of places are displayed on the Map?

You actually can. Places are divided by Categories (Gas station, Business, Shopping, etc) and you can choose the ones that should be visible on the Map.

On the main Menu select Settings and tap on Visible place categories. Tap the toggle button on the right to show/hide the categories you fancy the most.
